A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE

Our History

A.H. Grover, Inc. was established in 1973 by its founder, Alwin H. Grover. Al was 35 years old and recently out of the Marine Reserves when he established his company with a John Deere 1010 bulldozer, a 1973 Ford pickup and several pieces of farm equipment. Since that time, A.H. Grover, Inc. has worked on more than 1000 municipal, residential and commercial construction projects.

Al worked seven days a week, very long days with office work late into the night to build his company with many returning loyal customers. In 1977 the company known as Alwin H. Grover Excavating & Trucking was incorporated and renamed to A.H. Grover, Inc. Today A. H. Grover, Inc. is one of Southern Maine’s leading site, road and utility contractors, capable of competing on the smallest and the largest of projects. Al has inadvertently passed on his work ethic to his sons, Ben, and Matt and now his grandson's, Lee, Zachary, and Alexander. Al is a firm believer that hard work and long hours are important  to our success.

Ben has been employed by the company since age 12, when Al started the company. Throughout school and college Ben worked as a laborer, driver/operator, foreman, and estimator. Today Ben is the company’s vice president. Matt, has been employed by the company since age 13. Matt has worked in every position and currently runs some of the company's most difficult  projects as site supervisor.

The company is now in its 50th year and has progressed with the times and technologies. As the 3rd generation of Grover’s enters the business, A.H. Grover, Inc. is utilizing GPS (Global Positioning Systems) on their equipment to construct projects. It is an amazing advancement in the earth business. A project can be designed from its CAD file and built by man and GPS Rover, utilizing a bulldozer and grader to do finish work and be exactly as designed originally on paper without moving a molecule of dirt twice.
